Advertising unlocked at M&C Saatchi
I was lucky to be offered a place at ‘Advertising Unlocked’ with M&C Saatchi.
I’ve visited a number of agencies since being part of Ideas Foundation now and feel that I have gained more confidence in asking employees questions and even asking for their contact details, so it really benefited me!
I am starting to apply for placements for next year and I really wanted to understand more about the different job roles so that I can choose what is best for me. The employees were happy to answer any of my questions and I came away with a much clearer understanding of what is out there in the world of advertising.
The day began with a talk about the agency and an insight into the different roles, such as Account Handling, Strategy, Creative, Production, Design, Film, Finance and IT. Afterwards we got a tour of the agency and learnt about the everyday life. This was really important to me as you don’t usually get to know about the culture of a place and what it’s like to work there.
One of my favourite parts was the speed networking! We had a question and answer session where employees from different job roles sat at a desk and we were able to go over and ask questions 1:1 or in a group. This was extremely helpful as we were talking to the people that do that job every day so got a real insight!
We were also told about the graduate scheme and placements/apprenticeships. The graduate scheme is only for people applying for Account Handling and it lasts for 7 weeks. There’s also a Creative placement, which lasts for 3 months. I am really interested in this and found out that you can only apply to this if you have a partner (you have to apply as a pair) which I don’t have. Now I know that I need a partner, this is something I’m going to focus on, so I’m quite excited for what lies ahead!
Overall, I really enjoyed my visit to M&C Saatchi and learnt a lot about the industry.
